Banjamin Czarina.. 1964
1964.....Banjamin Czarina (Ch. Pasha of Carloway x Johara of Jagai) WIth an introduction to Afghans like we had with Czarina, I'm surprsed we ever had any more!!! When my Mother spoke to Daphne Gie (Jagai) the then sec. of the Southern Afghan Club...she did everything she could to explain to her that Afghans were different from any other breed.....couldn't be let off the lead....hard to train/socialise....needed a lot of grooming/exercise, and so the negative list went on.....But we'd all made up our mind - especially we children - we wanted an Afghan Hound!!! After all our Mother had been brought up with dogs and horses...how difficult couñd and Afghan be...????!!! Well I'm afraid the answer to this one is VERY....especially when you have 3 young children under the age of 10!!! But but poor Daphnee's words fell on deaf ears and Czarina came to live with for 2 short years....She was, unfortunately hit by a car after being chased onto a busy road by a mongrel.....we children were distraught and only the promise of another Afghan were we pacified....and that led to....
Zahedan Arabella....1966
Zahedan Arrabella (Zahedan Rifka's Tallal Sharif x Zahedan Khaspars Kali)..Emma and Zahedan Belusova (Tabatha) became our foundation bitches....They were also our introduction to the addictive world of showing dogs...Emma was very nervous and someone suggested we took them to Ringcraft classes to help...so we did, together with Tabatha....it din't helpo Emma at all.....but we realised that Tabatha had what it took to be a winner in the ring!!
Zahedan Belusova ... 1967
Zahedan Belusova (Ch Ranjitsinhji of Jagai x Zahedan Alyshan Andromache) .. Tabatha was the last puppy in the litter and her breeder, Rita Loynes - who together with Carole Walkden and Jill Knight, became lifelong family friends - said that Tabatha was not show quality but would be a lovely pet....Well she proved her wrong and developed into a swan!! Although being at school when I was showing her, she had a very successful time in the ring, and I'm sure if I'd shown her at a different time she wouñd have been made up...but she did win a Res C.C. from Sheila Devitt from a world record entry of Afghans...which was a lifetime thrill!!! She also raced at Blindley Heath at the start of Afghan Racing in the early '70's.
oolyghan Rahgina of Yansukhim (JW youngest ever winner)..1978-81
Oolyghan Raghina Of Yansukhim (Ch. Amudarya Shalar x Ch Sikandra Ahalya of Oolyghan)..Tallulah was such a special Afghan...not just in the ring, but as best friend..and her life was far too short....and she deserves a special section to herself..so I will write about her separately.....
Harlextan Bad Belinda...1981
Harlextan Bad Belinda (Ch.Amudarya Shalar x Harlextan Mad Margaret) ....Binnie was a beautiful 'Shalar' daughter but wasn't too keen on the show ring..she had her moments and did very well....but she was a good brood bitch and is behind many beautiful dogs in the ring worldwide, even now!!!
Saqlawi Jodene of Yansukhim (JW)....1982
Saqlawi Jodene of Yansukhim (Ch.Amudarya Shalar x El Khyria's Y' Swedish Girl)...Jodie was my canine Shirley Temple!! She was an absolute joy to own, and brought the smile back to my face after Tallulah's tragic death..Everyone loved her....She was another Shalar daughter bred from June Davies's Swedish import. She had a very successful show career from puppy right through to veteran, and was always popular with the ringside!! She was the Mother of Yansukhim's The Gold Digger (JW) and Yansukhim's Huckleberry (JW)
Yansukhim's The Gold Digger (JW)..1984
Yansukhim's The Gold Digger (Ch. Barnesmore the Baron of Landhavi x Saqlawi Jodene of Yansukhim)...Although a beautiful dog, he was not keen on showing....He gained his Junior warrant with ease - under 12 months -and had a stud book number, and won well at all levels...including many Best Puppy in Show, BOB's BIS's.
Yansukhim's Penny Black (JW)...1985
Yansukhim's Penny Black (Severndene Red Rooster x Harlextan Bad Belinda) Had a successful show career, and gained her Junior Warrant easily....she was a beautiful balck and rich tan
Yansukhim's Huckleberry .. 1988
Yansukhim's Huckleberry (Ck Karnak Mulberry x Saqlawi Jodene of Yansukhim) ...Huckleberry was a half brother to Digger and they both combined the best UK and Scandinavian bloodlines....although recognised as such at the time...the bloodlines are now being recognised as something worth having....I was glad to be part of the initial discovery!!! Huckleberry was such fun to show and own and gained his JW at 10 mths winning Best Puppy in SHow at the Southern Afghan Club Championship....under breed specialists Kathy Callow and Margaret Niblock...it was such a thrill to win such an award at this show....having been a life member since I was a child and a committee memeber for a while and to win with a homebred dog was the ultimate....the following year he won the cup for the top winning Southern Afghan Club dog!! I'm sure if work commitments hadn't got in the way he would have been a champion!
Saqlawi Hazzta Be You Yansukhim (JW).....1995
Saqlawi Hazzta Be You Yansukhim (Saqlawi Brillaint Affair x El Khyria's Va-e-Nu Detta at Saqlawi) going back on both sides to the famous Ch El Khyria's Hazztafer and bred by June Davies. ALthohg lightly shown before going to live with me in Spain, he had a very successful show career, gaining his Junior Warrant and many Best Puppy, BOB etc. He was an exotic black and silver brindle ...rarely seen in those days!!
Khafka's Cody....2002
Khafka's Cody (Khafka's SOng Sung BLue x Jacosta Hot'n SPicy)..Cody is the full litter brother to World Champion Khafka's Exotic Spice....as beautiful as he is, I have never shown him, and he remains my Champion at home!!!! Like Kasper before him, he is black and silver brindle and has the most wonderful temperament you could wish for!!!
Woodheath Domino of Yansukhim (JW)..1979
Domino was a very special little man...not just because of his colour....which was very rare at the time he was being shown...But he had a special charisma about him that eveyone loved....He had a very successful show career winning numerous Best Puppy in Show....BOB's BIS's...JW---C.C/BOB!!!
Champion Milkwood Miss Peggotty o' Yansukhim (JW)... 1984..
Peg came into my life by way of a thank you from Rebecca (my sister) for campaigning Peg's mother (BIS. Ch. Finloren Hester of Yansukhim) to her first 2 CC's...her 3rd to be gained with Rebecca handling her and she went onto win BIS at the Welsh Kennel CLub Ch. Show in 1983. Peg was an absolute joy to show and quickly gained her Junior Warrant and very soon after gained her title!! She is behind most of Rebecca's top winning hounds today!!!
